Everyone loves a sequel.

Here’s the second installment of our visit with Stephen and Stina.  Christina is a member of the North Texas Derby Revolution so suffice it to say she kicks ass on a daily basis. We could talk for eons about how much we love the contrast of her more feminine wardrobe choices against her sharp personality and her tattoos (the one on her leg is inspired by Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451)… but we’ll let the pictures and her answers do the talking!

CHRISTINA:

1) What’s your major?

I am majoring in journalism with a minor in psychology.

2) What/who influences your style the most?

Definitely the people I surround myself with. My best friend got me into Jeffrey Campbell. Another close friend inspired me to rehabilitate my old t-shirts. My derby family furthered my fascination with socks and hosiery. So on and so forth.

3) Is there a particular decade you feel inspires you more than others? Why?

I am not very inspired by other decades. If anything, I just pick up something that catches my eye and it happens to be influenced by another decade. I love my cloche hat, however, I don’t have much else related to the 20s. Although, I will say the 80s is most akin to my style: tights, wild hair, cut-up shirts.

4) What initially draws you to a particular piece of clothing or accessory?

I really like unusual or striking pieces. Things that really stand out. Sometimes people don’t take enough liberties with their outfit(s). It can be so drab.

5) Is there anything new that you’ve been experimenting with lately, as far as your usual style goes?

I have a lot of hair, so I am trying out new ways to get it up and out of my way. Also, Pinterest is the driving force for some projects underfoot. There is so much more I can do with the clothes I already have and don’t ever wear. It will be a nice way to spice up my wardrobe without spending the money I kind of don’t have.

Stephen is my favorite. >.<

We spent a Saturday afternoon with Stephen and Stina, a couple with individual styles that are not only striking on their own but that also interact in an intriguing way. We had so much fun playing around with our first couple feature, just getting a feel for their hang out space (Stephen’s house) and even punctuated the visit with a game of Uno with Stephen’s housemates.  And Stina, who so graciously agreed to the arduous task of picking her favorite pieces and bringing them over to Stephen’s even brought us chocolate and peanut butter-covered bananas! We loved spending time with them and hope you enjoy the results. We’ll be posting Stina’s part of the visit and questionnaire answers tomorrow!

STEPHEN:

1) What’s your major?

My major is Communication Design with a minor in Entrepreneurship.

2) What/who influences your style the most?

I’d say I am influenced by simple things and I tend to keep the
wardrobe simple too. I’m thoroughly influenced by Chazwick Bundick,
better known by his stage name Toro Y Moi. He’s stylish, design-savvy
and makes some great tunes.

3) Is there a particular decade you feel inspires you more than others? Why?

Definitely the 80’s. It was all trial and error kind of stuff.  A
bunch of interesting people cite their most creative period was during
that strange era.  I like that a lot, and keeping a novice mindset
keeps your work and your life refreshing and enjoyable.

4) What initially draws you to a particular piece of clothing or accessory?

Like I stated earlier, I try to keep it simple—almost
uniform-like. For one, I can’t say no watches, ever. Monochromatic
watches and shoes catch my eyes often. But everything in between, it
all depends on texture. Like corduroy’s, jet-black denim, tweeds, and
old cotton pearl snaps even; there’s a real great feel to them and I
can’t say no.

5) Is there anything new that you’ve been experimenting with lately, as far as your usual style goes?

My buddy John introduced me to rolled-up pant legs and black pants
are definitely a favourite. It’s too bad it is already pretty hot here
in Texas, so I want to try cutting up some old jeans—my girlfriend
cuts up shirts all the time, so maybe I can learn a thing or two with
the scissors!

Stay tuned for Christina’s post tomorrow!
